Why I like Daily Fantasy Sports…

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

When your team really stinks up the place you can fire them all and start over tomorrow, LOL.  I don’t think I could ever go back to regular season long fantasy sports again.  No money in the tournaments last night and the team didn’t perform very well.  We put up 179 total points with Pierce (23), Kidd (30), Ginobili (24), Duncan (35), Blatche (11), Nowitzki (40) and Camby (18).  Pierce is getting a little inconsistent, Ginobili’s hot streak may be ending and we really wasted alot of money on Camby.  What probably killed us the most though was Blatche.  When you play a strategy of all studs and one fill in, you always run the risk that the fill in doesn’t perform, which was the case both Sunday and Monday.  If he doesn’t perform, you usually don’t win, which is what makes the strategy so risky.

I’ll be back at lunchtime with today’s board and picks.

Fantasy Basketball Tournament Betting Roster for Monday 2/25

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Monday, February 25, 2008

Playing 2 ten team tournaments today with our fantasy basketball contest roster.  The structure is a 7 player, 210 point cap game on FSL.

Center is thin today, so you either take Camby or you are stuck with Murphy, Haywood or Chandler.  I decided to spend the money and go with Camby, even though he has a tough matchup with Detroit.  Put Camby at center for $31.

We are going with a combination at forward that I have used several times with some success.  Put Tim Duncan ($35) at one forward spot and Dirk Nowitzki ($36) at the second forward spot.  The last forward spot goes to Andray Blatche ($15).  Caron Butler is still out and hopefully Blatche can pick up some good minutes and give us around 22FP.

At guard we are going with the red hot Manu Ginobili ($31) who has a good matchup with Atlanta.  Paul Pierce ($31) gets a guard spot based on a nice performance last night and a good matchup against the Clippers.  The last guard spot is a problem.  After selecting the roster I wanted, I had $31 left.  Due to only having 6 NBA games tonight, I couldn’t upgrade on any already filled spots.  I took my $31 to the Guard draft board only to find that there wasn’t anyone near that price range available.  The best option left on the board was Jason Kidd.  I don’t like Kidd and wouldn’t normally spend $29 on him, but I have the money to waste today.  I could have dropped down and taken a Bibby, Terry or Hinrich in the $24 range, but Kidd had a nice game last night and I’m willing to give him a gamble.  He gets the assists, but his scoring is a problem.  Dallas has a home game against a soft Chicago team, so let’s see what happens.

Good luck and check back close to game time for any updates.

Nice game Foye

Monday, February 25th, 2008

I guess if you are going to lose a fantasy contest, you might as well do it in style.  The fantasy basketball roster missed the money in both tourneys yesterday and put up just 172 total points.  Roy had (16), Foye (7), McGrady (39), Artest (28), Bosh (24), Nowitzki (41) and Ming (17).   Roy, Bosh and Ming had terrible games, while our dud truly turned to be a real dud on Sunday, with Foye barely showing up and registering only 7 points.  Roy left in the third quarter with an ankle sprain and didn’t return, while Ming had a strained hip that slowed him.

Oh well, today is a new day and I’ll be back at lunchtime with today’s draft board and picks.

Sunday 2/24 Fantasy Basketball Betting Tournament Roster

We are playing 2 ten team tournaments today with our fantasy roster.  One of the tournaments filled up, but the other may not fill due to the deadline being 2:30 today.  The structure is a 7 player, 210 point cap game.

We are putting an interesting lineup on the floor today and sticking with the Studs and Duds approach.  Today we single out Randy Foye as our dud and we are building the team around him.  He is near minimum wage at $11 but has been getting nice minutes as Minnesota is out of the race and trying to get things figured out for next year.  He put in 40 minutes and collected 23FP in his last game and I’d be more than happy with a repeat of that today.  Put Tracy McGrady (32) and Brandon Roy (31) at the other two guard positions.  Guard is just an ugly position today, as just about all the top matchups are just terrible.

At forward I’m going with Dirk Nowitzki (36), Ron Artest (31) and Chris Bosh (35).  I wanted LeBron, but with a smaller 210 point cap today, it just wasn’t possible without sacrificing another position.  Bosh was the second choice and $13 cheaper.  I just hope the TOR/NYK isn’t a blowout and Bosh doesn’t end up on the bench for the fourth quarter.

At center I’m going with Ming.  He gets a matchup v. a very inexperienced interior of T. Thomas and J. Noah.  He should have a big day.

Good luck and remember your lineups have to be in by 2:30 today.

2nd and 3rd Place Finishes in the 10 Team Tournaments

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

We had some good results Saturday as the fantasy tournament roster took 2nd in one tournament and 3rd in the other for two money finishes.  The team put up 249 total Fantasy points and was 6 points out of first place in both tournaments.   Both tournament winning teams had Ginobili who put up 47 for the night.  I just didn’t expect Ginobili to keep putting up huge lines with the return of Parker, but I might have to take another look.  Kobe had an off night for us only putting up 28 fantasy points and Anthony was a little sluggish putting up only 31.  The rest of the team performed pretty well with  Carter  (40) , Wade (43), Kobe (28), Jefferson (38), Duncan (47), Anthony (31) and Blount (21).

There are 16 teams in action today, with an early game at 2:30 Eastern.  I’ll try and have the board up by lunchtime and our picks shortly thereafter.

Saturday’s Fantasy Basketball Betting Tournament Roster

Playing 2 ten team tournaments with today’s fantasy basketball contest roster.  The structure is a 7 player, 220 point cap game on FSL.

Today we are actually going to build our team around Mark Blount at Center.  There are two strategies to try today, either go cheap at Center with Blount ($12) or go expensive with Gasol ($31).  I’m going with the cheap option and spending the money on the Guard position, which is a little thin today.  Put Blount at Center for $12.

I’m going with Kobe ($40) at one guard spot.  Just like everyone else, I worry about the injury, but he just keeps producing.  I’m going with D. Wade ($36) at the second guard spot.  He produces, what else can you ask for $36?  Vince Carter ($31) gets the last guard spot.  He should continue to put up big minutes and has a home game.  New Jersey just has nobody else to put on the court, so Carter is running the show.

Richard Jefferson ($30) gets a forward spot.  While I don’t really like starting two players from the same team, this is one of those exceptions.  Carter and Jefferson are the Nets and they will account for at least 50% of the team’s stats.  Put Tim Duncan ($35) at forward.  He’s steady and never seems to have an off night.  Carmelo Anthony ($36) gets the other forward spot.  You usually can’t go wrong with Melo.

We used our entire 220 point salary cap, but shouldn’t have any injury issues before game time.  Check back later this afternoon for any updates.

I’m off to do my taxes, this is going to suck…

A Good Friday Night

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

We had a great night last night getting 1st in one tournament and 2nd in the other.  Had we gone with the Paul/Miller pairing rather than the Redd/Williams pairing we would have swept both tourneys.  But, hey, no sense in being greedy, right?

The team put up a total of 250 points.  D. Williams (33), Redd (24), Carter (30), Artest (41), Warrick (23), James (56) and Ming (43).  Redd was disappointing as he had 12FP at the end of the first quarter and then just disappeared as Milwaukee got blown out by Detroit.

There are 14 teams in action tonight.  I’ll get the draft board up by lunch and our picks shortly thereafter.  Once basketball is done it is time to do my taxes.  Maybe I can stretch basketball out all day…

Friday’s Fantasy Basketball Betting Contest Roster

Playing 2 ten team tournaments with our roster tonight.  The structure is a 7 player, 220 point cap game on Fantasy Sports Live.

I’m sticking with the strategy that has been working, using the studs and duds plan (check out the articles section to learn more about the strategy).  Hakim Warrick continues to perform and hopefully he can keep it going tonight.  Put him at Forward for $11.

LeBron James (47) gets one forward spot and Ron Artest (31) gets the other.  Both are riding hot streaks, so let’s keep riding them.

Guard was a little difficult today.  I’m going with Vince Carter (31) at one guard spot.  He put up 50FP on Wednesday in the first game with Kidd gone.  He should continue to see close to 40 minutes a night and put up good stats.  He did get a cramp at the end of Wednesday’s game, but looks to be just fine.  The other two guard spots were a tossup between a pairing of C. Paul(38)/A.Miller(27) or Redd(31)/D. Williams(31).  I don’t think you could go wrong with either pairing, but I’m going with the Redd/D. Williams pairing tonight.  I’m leaving 3 points of cap on the table, but that will give me plenty of room for any emergency that might come up close to game time.

Put Ming (35) at center.  He will get his 37+ minutes.  Ming put up 45FP in his last meeting with New  Orleans and should be able to get close to that tonight.

Check back closer to game time for any updates.  And check out the FantasySportsHandicapping.com  Fantasy Forum message boards.  The first 50 people to register get the “Original Member” rank to keep forever.  Yeah, I’m not above bribing people, LOL.  Register for the boards, come by and say hello, and give us some feedback on what you would like to see on the site.

Payback, thanks Ginobili

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

We had a good night getting 1st in one tourney and 3rd in the other.  The change from Roy to Ginobili got us in the money, which was payback for Wednesday’s bad move of replacing Carter.  I guess everything works out in the long run.  As usual with a small NBA schedule, the teams in last nights tourneys were closely bunched.  262 won one tourney, while 266 points won the other.

The Fantasy Sports Handicapping team put up 262 points with Ginobili (51), McGrady (39), Alston (34), Marion (30), Duncan (51), Al Jefferson (38) and Blount (19).  Roy managed to play and put up a nice 44.  Everyone except Marion earned in excess of their salary.

Big Schedule today with 26 of 30 teams on the court, so there should be some good plays.  I’ll have the draft board up early afternoon and tonight’s picks up shortly thereafter.
