Today is the last day for basketball before we shut it down to get ready for baseball season in two weeks. I also have some technical issues to address with the site. Looks like I’m going to be forced to transfer to another webhost, as StartLogic’s service is just horrible.
We are playing one 10 team tournament today at FSL. The structure is a 7 player, 210 point cap game. When I put together today’s roster, several problems are becoming apparent as the season winds down. First, players on losing teams aren’t playing very hard and are just mailing it in waiting for the season to end. Second, players on winning teams are getting plenty of rest for the playoffs. Several of our players are at risk today of getting limited minutes, but what can you do? I can’t go with lower quality players just on the minutes risk. Fantasy basketball will get more unpredictable as the season comes to a close, which decreases your edge and expectation. Just be careful if you keep playing until the seasons end.
At center I’m going with Emeka Okafor ($27). This is the first time I’ve played Okafor all year, but the options are very limited today. Camby has seen his minutes fall to around 30 and he is a bit overpriced, so this left Okafor as the best option.
At guard, I’m sticking with T. McGrady ($32). He just keeps scoring and should have to score serious points to keep up with the Lakers. Joe Johnson ($30) gets a guard spot. I’m just riding the hot streak here. He gets a weak NY team and should have a good game. Ricky Davis ($20) gets the last guard spot. He is our cheapie roster filler for the day.
At forward I’m playing Lamar Odom ($28). Gasol is out and Ming is out, leaving Odom to dominate the middle. He should be good value for $28. Dirk Nowitzki ($36) gets a forward spot. Dirk scares me as his minutes are down and Dallas will probably blow out a depleted Miami team. This is one of those end of season risks that you just can’t do much about. Carmelo Anthony ($36) gets the last forward spot. He may also find himself on the bench for the fourth quarter, but the options at forward today are thin.
Good luck. I will start posting daily baseball notes on the blog over the coming weeks as we get ready for baseball season.
